Cool Down!

Just looking at this photo made me feel cool this hot and humid Saturday afternoon.  This is Reigne, my niece, and my mother in law, taking a dip and a candid pose during our family outing.  Wish I was on water right now, on an indoor pool, and not outside on this heat!

The Secret: I Promise Myself

This is something that I saw from The Coffee Chic and I loved it so much, I am re-posting it here.
I promise myself...

To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet.
To make all my friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature I meet.
To give so much time to improving myself that I have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words, but in great deeds.
To live in the faith that the whole world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is in me.

Camera Critters: Fighting Cocks

Camera Critters

Cock fighting is a popular sport in the Philippines. Our neighbor looks like an enthusiast because they have so many fighting cocks beside their house. And they sure crow so loud we use them as alarm clocks! This one looks ready to fight, don't you think?

Comfort Food

I just want to share with you two of my favorite food and that which brings me comfort: inihaw na talong at nilagang okra. With bagoong or toyo with kalamansi as dipping sauce, I am good to go! And with extra rice please!
The inihaw na talong can be mixed with tomato and onions to make a salad or fried with egg to make torta. Yummy!
We feasted on them during Lent when we stayed at our home. They are cheap and really, really good.

Drexelle's First Guitar

My husband bought my eldest son his first guitar. He is learning to play this summer and has been having lessons with his classmate for more than a week now. I told him we will buy him a guitar once he is able to play one song for me but thankfully, we had some extra money and was able to get him this gift earlier.
So I hear him practicing everyday and I hope that he learns to play for me soon! May haharana na sa akin.

L is for Lahar

When Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991, it brought about a destruction so huge and vast it was felt in other places the world. It was said to be the second largest eruption of the 20th century and looking at it last March, we saw for ourselves how it destroyed everything on its path. Pyroclastic flow or lahar as it is called here turned the place into a huge desert!
We rode a 4x4 for one and a half hours and saw mostly this lahar country. One can only imagine the horror of people living in the area during the peak of the mountains' wrath.
But even after all the destruction, nature has a way of making us pause and think at its beauty and might. This is the Mt. Pinatubo crater lake that has been born from all those and I conquered it last month! Such breathtaking beauty!
Have a nice ABC Wednesday everyone! Come visit the Philippines and see this beauty for yourself!

A Family Date for My Son's Birthday

My eldest celebrated his 14th birthday last March 25 and since I don't enjoy cooking at home or setting up for a party, we decided to make it a family date. I am thankful that my son still enjoys his time with us and did not ask to go out with his friends instead. We saw a movie which we all liked which is Mirror, Mirror. We already watched the Hunger Games and I did not deem it fit for my younger kids and all others were not to our satisfaction so we ended up watching Cinderella!
Before the movie, we had time to take our pictures at the various movie standees, including this blurry family picture with the Chipmunks! It was blurry because we only had 5 minutes before the start of the movie which we found out was on the other side, ha ha!
After the movie, my mom posed with her Prince Charming, to the delight of her grand kids!
And of course, a birthday dinner will not be complete without a KFC dinner: everybody's favorite!
So happy birthday again to my son who is now almost a man. May he continue to enjoy his time with his family while he discovers new things for himself and go out in the real world!
